Reports from The Mirror this weekend claimed that Everton are lining up a January move for Watford striker Troy Deeney.
The Toffees missed out on a number of targets on deadline day, and whilst they did land West Ham United’s Enner Valencia on loan, manager Ronald Koeman may yet fancy more attacking firepower in January.

Neither Arouna Kone nor Oumar Niasse have proven that they can score goals for Everton consistently, and with some lingering questions over Romelu Lukaku’s future at Goodison Park, it would be little surprise to see Everton target another centre forward in the New Year.
Now, The Mirror claim that Everton are looking to make a move for Watford striker Troy Deeney, who scored in the Hornets’ 4-2 win over West Ham United on Saturday.
The 28-year-old – formerly of Walsall – hit 13 goals in his first ever Premier League season last term, and has impressed throughout his time at Vicarage Road.

The report states that Everton’s new director of football Steve Walsh drove Leicester’s interest in Deeney over the summer, but Watford managed to keep their captain with a new contract.
However, Walsh – who saw Leicester’s £25m bid fail – remains keen on signing Deeney, and now wants Everton to mount a move for the striker during the January transfer window.

Since the rumours emerged, Everton fans have taken to Twitter to give their views on whether Deeney would be a good signing or not, with some suggesting that he’s more talented than given credit for, and would be a smart addition for the Toffees.
However, others believe that spending a huge amount of money on a striker approaching 29 would be a major mistake, and don’t want to see Deeney arrive at Goodison Park at all, suggesting that the rumours must be a joke.
