Everton are set to keep hold of Mason Holgate, after Marco Silva decided against selling the youngster.

Everton fans are delighted that Marco Silva appears to be set to keep Mason Holgate, despite reports to the contrary.

There had been suggestions that Everton were open to offers on the youngster this summer, as Marcel Brands and Silva look to clear the decks.

However, the Liverpool Echo now claim that Holgate is one of the players which Silva has decided to keep at Goodison Park.

And Everton fans are delighted that Holgate looks to be sticking around, as they feel he could become their best defender.

Holgate made 21 appearances for Everton last term, and he could be a player well suited to Silva’s system.

The England youth international is comfortable in possession, and also possesses the versatility to play at full-back or in central defence.

Everton are expected to bring in defenders this summer, which could increase competition for places in Silva’s starting line-up.
