Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori played 45 minutes for their development side yesterday.

Ramiro Funes Mori of Everton looks on during the Premier League 2 match between Arsenal and Everton at Meadow Park on February 5, 2018 in Borehamwood, England.

Everton fans have admitted that they are shocked that Ramiro Funes Mori has become so important to them.

Funes Mori has been out for the entire season so far with injury, but made his comeback for Everton’s under-23 side yesterday.

The Argentine defender is now close to being made available again.

And Everton fans feel that he has a crucial role to play in Sam Allardyce’s squad.

Everton have struggled badly at the back so far this season, with most their centre-backs not hitting form.

Michael Keane has failed to show his best since signing, Phil Jagielka has shown signs of age, and Ashley Williams has been abject.

Everton did sign Eliaquim Mangala in the January transfer window, but the French defender had a shocking debut, as the Toffees lost 5-1 to Arsenal.

And Everton could now be relying on Funes-Mori to return in good form, as they look to put distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
