Everton were left ruing their missed chances and an individual mistake from goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg yesterday, as they lost 2-1 to Burnley at Turf Moor.

The Dutch keeper spilled the ball into the path of Sam Vokes for Burnley’s opening goal, which came against the run of play.

Scott Arfield then scored a 90th minute winner after Yannick Bolasie had scored Everton’s equaliser.

But whilst the Dutch keeper certainly had one of his worse games, he could be forgiven as the double penalty save from last week still lingers in the memory.

The player in question is captain Phil Jagielka.

The centre-back was again poor as Everton fans begin to wonder if he has done a Sylvain Distin and began to struggle with his increasing age.

That was certainly the feeling on Twitter among the Everton faithful. Frustrated with his wasteful passing and decreasing abilities many were calling on manager Ronald Koeman to drop Jags for Everton’s next game and bring in Argentine international Ramiro Funes Mori or young talent Mason Holgate.
