Everton had to put in a battling performance on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a 1-1 draw against Manchester City.
The Toffees had picked up just one point from a possible six heading into the game, and faced a daunting task as they travelled to take on Pep Guardiola’s league leaders.
City dominated the game and saw Maarten Stekelenburg save Kevin De Bruyne’s first half penalty, before Romelu Lukaku scored a superb goal to give Everton a shock lead.

Stekelenburg then saved another penalty, this time from Sergio Aguero, before substitute Nolito struck to hand City a share of the spoils.
With just 27% if possession and only three shots on goal, Everton were overpowered throughout their game against City, but had goalkeeper Stekelenburg to thank for his two penalty saves.

The most relieved man at the Etihad Stadium was Everton defender Phil Jagielka, who gave away both penalties for fouls on David Silva and Aguero.
The 34-year-old’s performance was blotted by giving away those penalties, and fans took to Twitter during and after the game to discuss his performance against the league leaders.
Many suggested that Jagielka is starting to show his age, and has looked ‘past it’ during the opening weeks of the season, even urging manager Ronald Koeman to drop the Everton captain.
