Everton hope to welcome Phil Jagielka back.

Phil Jagielka of Everton clears from Ashley Barnes of Burnley during the Premier League match between Everton and Burnley at Goodison Park on April 15, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Phil Jagielka is hoping to make his return to the Everton first team – and fans are hoping Ashley Williams is set to be dropped.

The club captain has been out of action since mid-September with a hamstring injury but has now declared himself fit, the club’s official website reports.

Jagielka said: “The injury is all good now, hopefully training will go well and I will be pushing for selection.”

Everton are hoping to bounce back from a poor month of results and kick start their season.

Jagielka coming back into the side would mean somebody dropping out – and under performing defender Ashley Williams is the standout choice.

Everton fans took to twitter in response to the Jagielka news, expressing their hopes that Williams is the player he replaces.

Everton travel to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, and Ronald Koeman will have to choose whether to put Jagielka straight in.

Williams has been on international duty with Wales this week and so Jagielka will be fresher, providing the Toffees boss is convinced he is sharp enough to start at the Amex.

If he does, it is likely to be a popular choice.
