According to The Express, Everton are preparing a summer move to snap up Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, with the Toffees ready to rival Manchester City.

Manager Ronald Koeman moved swiftly to bring in goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg last summer following Tim Howard’s return to Major League Soccer with Colorado Rapids, with the Dutchman starting the season as Everton’s first-choice shot-stopper.

Stekelenburg has since lost his place to Joel Robles, but with neither appearing to be the long-term solution to Everton’s goalkeeping position – triggering interest in Pickford.

The Express report that Everton are preparing a summer move for the Sunderland goalkeeper, who has impressed for the Black Cats this season behind a porous defence.

Pickford, 22, has come up through the ranks at the Stadium of Light, and after starring on loan at Preston North End in the Championship last season, he’s now starting to emerge as one of the Premier League’s top youngsters.

Whilst he’s been out with a knee injury of late, Pickford has impressed in his 16 Premier League appearances this season, and with superb distribution and impressive shot-stopping, it’s no surprise that interest in the England Under-21 international is mounting.
