Everton beat Leicester 1-0, with Bassala Sambou scoring the only goal of the contest.
But it was Williams’ performance which really impressed Everton supporters, who were watching.
Williams put in a dominant display in the middle of the park, with plenty of Toffees fans raving about his showing on social media website Twitter after the contest.
Williams was sent out on loan by Everton to Barnsley last season, and he enjoyed a productive season at Championship level.
Whether the 21-year-old will be kept around at Goodison Park this term remains to be seen.
Williams has a lot of competition for a place at Everton, and despite his impressive performance last night, it could be that a loan move serves him best.
Everton’s first-team are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Bournemouth at Dean Court.
