Everton fans got a glimpse of two of their summer signings on the opening day of the new Premier League season with both Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Moise Kean featuring in the second-half of the goalless draw with Crystal Palace.

It was Gbamin who was introduced into the game first as he replaced Andre Gomes after the Portuguese suffered an injury. And following the game, it appears fair to suggest that Marco Silva would have had no intention of using the 23-year-old for the entirety of the second-half as he looked rusty at times.

Gbamin only sealed his £25 million move to Goodison Park at the start of the month (fee reported by BBC Sport), and had not been able to take part in the Toffees’ final pre-season friendly as he wrapped up his move as the side travelled out to Germany.

And that lack of sharpness appeared to show as he landed Everton in trouble on a couple of occasions in the stalemate at Selhurst Park. But there were also a number of encouraging signs from the youngster’s display.

He never shied away from the chance to get on the ball and often showed intent to drive forward as Everton looked to try and find what would have proved to have been the winning goal.

Some fans have admitted that they are concerned that Gbamin is not going to be up to the task of replacing Idrissa Gueye, but many more have taken a much more sympathetic view of the summer signing’s performance – and others have insisted that they have been left with reason for optimism for when he gets up to speed.
