Ajax are a team packed with young talent and have one of the most exciting squads in Europe, but last night in the Europa League final they failed to rise to the occasion.

They were beaten 2-0 by Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, through a deflected goal from Paul Pogba and a close range effort from Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

A lot was expected of Ajax’s star man Davy Klaassen, who has scored 16 goals and provided 10 assists this season.

Clubs are queuing up for his services, with Everton prominently linked.

The Mirror reported Ronald Koeman watched him in the Europa League semi-final, and plans to make an offer in excess of £20 million for him this summer.

It’s unlikely, but Klaassen will hope Koeman was not watching his former club last night.

Klaassen failed to make a positive impact and barely touched the ball in the first 20 minutes of the game.

He created two chances but did not manage a shot on goal, and without his influence, Ajax faltered.

Everton fans tuning in hoping to see a masterclass from the potential signing were disappointed, and left wondering whether he is worth pursuing at all…
