Everton fans react negatively to Cuco Martina’s latest showing.
Everton slumped to their heaviest defeat of the Sam Allardyce era following a 4-0 thumping by Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
First-half goals from Son Heung-min and Harry Kane gave Everton a mountain to climb in the second half, before Kane and Christian Eriksen made things worse for the Toffees.
Naturally, quite a few of Allardyce’s players severely under-performed but few have received the stinging criticism that Cuco Martina has.
The former Southampton right-back – playing at left-back – was simply terrible all evening and he was arguably responsible for Spurs’ first goal by not closing down Serge Aurier for the cross that led to Son’s opener.
The Ronald Koeman signing didn’t get much better after that, and his attacking threat was virtually non existent against Aurier.
This isn’t the first poor game that Martina has had in a blue shirt, but quite a lot of Everton fans on Twitter are hoping it’s the last.
