Denise Barrett-Baxendale is hoping the Toffees’ prospective move to Bramley-Moore Dock will help them become a force in English football once again.
Everton chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale has stated that the club will seek to challenge for the Premier League title after moving into their proposed new stadium.
According to BBC Sport, the Toffees will look to submit their planning application for their proposed £500million ground at Bramley-Moore Dock later in 2019.
At Everton’s annual general meeting on Tuesday, Barrett-Baxendale said the prospect of the club playing at a new state-of-the-art stadium ought to be the springboard upon which to become a force in English football once again.
“It means challenging for domestic titles and trophies,” she said of the prospective move, as quoted by BBC Sport. “Not only to win cups but to win Premier League titles too.”
Over the years, Everton have periodically been one of English football’s dominant teams, with nine first-division titles under the belt, the latest of which came in 1986-87, plus five FA Cups, two League Cups and one European Cup Winners’ Cup.
The Merseysiders last finished in the top four of the Premier League in 2005 under David Moyes, while at present, they sit 11th in the table.
