Everton were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea in the League Cup last night.

Everton fans have claimed that the only mistake David Unsworth has made so far is to start with Ashley Williams.

Unsworth has impressed with his management of the team, since taking temporary charge following Ronald Koeman’s sacking.

The Toffees caretaker boss seems to have brought a positivity back to Goodison Park, and has even promoted some members of the under-23 squad to the first-team.

Unsworth was in charge of Everton for the first time since Koeman dismissal last night, against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and there was plenty to be positive about.

Everton may have lost the match 2-1, but their performance was much improved on recent weeks.

The Toffees played with passion, but Unsworth’s decision to stick by Williams has not gone down well.

Williams has endured a miserable season at Everton so far, with his performances looking well off the pace.

Whether the Welsh international will hold on to his starting place at the weekend, when Everton take on Leicester City, remains to be seen.
