Everton fans have been reacting on Twitter to the reports coming out of the Daily Mirror at the weekend which suggested that the Toffees were extremely keen on signing Swansea centre-back Alfie Mawson this month.

Swansea are enduring a miserable season in the Premier League, but the 23-year-old’s stock continues to rise 18 months after his move to the Liberty Stadium from Barnsley.

The Mirror reports that West Ham are eyeing up a move for the defender, and now Everton are keen on bringing him to Goodison Park, with the report suggesting that Sam Allardyce has made the youngster one of his priority targets for this month.

The Mirror added that the Swans rate Mawson at £25 million, and news of the links with the Toffees has prompted plenty of discussion amongst Everton fans on social media.

Many of the supporters seem to be encouraged by the speculation. The club appear to have improved defensively since Allardyce arrived, but they have conceded six goals in their last three games in all competitions, so there is clearly still improvement to be made.

And with a defensive unit that is quite the mix of younger prospects and ageing pros, adding Mawson ahead of what should be his prime would be an excellent move, and some fans appear to view a pursuit the same way, though others do not appear to be entirely convinced.

Here is the best of the reaction…
