Everton’s search for their next manager has taken a surprise twist, with Sam Allardyce now back in the frame.

Everton fans have been reacting on Twitter to a report coming from Sky Sports this afternoon that Sam Allardyce is back in talks with the Toffees about potentially succeeding Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park.

Sky Sports reports that Everton had previously held discussions with the former England boss but talks broke down over the length of the deal that the Premier League strugglers were willing to offer.

However, Sky Sports now reports that Allardyce is back on the radar two weeks on, after they failed to lure Watford’s Marco Silva away from Vicarage Road, and there has been progress made regarding the length of the contract that the 63-year-old would sign if he does end up getting the job.

It is no surprise that Everton have looked to step up their search for Koeman’s successor with the team hovering around the relegation zone in the top flight and looking completely bereft of confidence during their 4-1 defeat to previously goal-shy Southampton on Sunday.

The news however, that talks with Allardyce have restarted has not gone down particularly well with Everton supporters – with many unconvinced that he is the right man to turn the club’s fortunes around, nor that the club themselves feel that he is the right man, having not been willing to offer him the terms he wanted during the first round of talks.

But a small number of supporters are slightly more optimistic that Allardyce may be exactly what the club needs with their situation looking potentially desperate.
