Martina arrived at Everton earlier this week, upon his release by Southampton.
During a summer in which Everton have spent approaching £100 million and still aren’t done, Cuco Martina’s free transfer from Southampton is perhaps not much to get the juices flowing.
But with Seamus Coleman to miss the start of the new season and Mason Holgate’s talents potentially required at centre half after the loss of Ramiro Funes Mori, it could prove to be a shrewd piece of business on Ronald Koeman’s part.
After all, Koeman is already familiar with Martina’s abilities, having managed him for a season at Southampton before his own move to Goodison Park a year ago.
For the first time on Wednesday, Everton fans had a chance to see Martina in the flesh – against his old club FC Twente, funnily enough – as the Toffees recorded a comfortable 3-0 win.
Goals from Kevin Mirallas, Aaron Lennon and Kieran Dowell grabbed the headlines, with Martina entering the arena among a raft of substitutions with 27 minutes left to play.
But how did Everton’s first ever Curacao international get on in Holland?
