Everton have confirmed the signing of midfielder Idrissa Gueye this evening, with the Aston Villa ace penning a four-year deal at Goodison Park.
The Toffees had made just one senior signing before today, with goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg joining from Fulham, but have now swooped to land Gueye.

Gueye, 26, joined Villa from Lille last summer, and whilst Villa suffered relegation to the Championship, he was one of the few players to come out of the campaign with major credit.
The Senegal international offered energy in the middle of the park, whilst his stats in terms of tackling and interceptions ranked up with N’Golo Kante, who just earned a huge move from Leicester City to Chelsea.

Gueye joins Everton for a fraction of the cost of Kante’s move, and will now compete with the likes of Gareth Barry, James McCarthy and Muhamed Besic for a place in Ronald Koeman’s midfield.
Villa fans appear to be split on Gueye’s move away from the club, and Everton supporters have been taking to Twitter this evening to offer their thoughts on the deal.

Fans largely think that Gueye will be a good signing, and point out that sometimes it’s about finding bargains in the transfer market rather than splashing the cash – something new director of football Steve Walsh will be focused on this summer.
Supporters pointed out his stats from last season, and believe Gueye will bring energy and dynamism to the middle of the park, which Everton have lacked in recent years.
