Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s Everton career so far has been a sad one. The Ivorian joined the club for £25 million (BBC) from Mainz last summer, but injuries have ruined his debut campaign.
The 24-year-old played the first two games of the season under Marco Silva before suffering a hamstring injury that ruled him out until March.
Gbamin was expected to be fit for the final few games of the season before football came to a standstill, yet it looks like that isn’t happening anymore.
The Toffees announced on the club’s official website yesterday that Gbamin is set to undergo surgery next week after suffering a serous Achilles injury in training.
Surgery should sideline him for the next few months and, if his terrible luck continues, he might not return this year at all.
That is a terrible blow for both Gbamin and Everton who are in desperate need of a number six.

The Ivorian was brought in to replace Idrissa Gueye but he hasn’t even been able to try to fill the current PSG man’s role at Goodison Park.
Gbamin would certainly be devastated by the injury and so are Everton fans, who took to social media to express their feelings over the news.
Here is how a few Toffees fans reacted on Twitter:
