The Everton hero has left his position overseeing the development of the club’s academy players.

Joe Royle has left his position as part of the Everton coaching staff.
As reported by BBC Sport, Royle rejoined Everton in 2014 to help with the development of the club’s young players, while he also helped to prepare the team alongside David Unsworth for the final game of the 2015/16 season against Norwich City following the dismissal of Roberto Martinez.
Royle commenced his playing career at Everton and scored 119 goals for the club in 276 appearances.

Later Royle returned to Everton as a manager as he guided the Toffees to glory in the 1995 FA Cup, with his side prevailing past Manchester United in the final.
Still well respected amongst Everton supporters, Royle has been widely praised for the work that he has done with the club’s academy players in recent years.

There have been suggestions in some quarters that Royle’s departure from Everton is a consequence of new manager Sam Allardyce attempting to put his own stamp on the club.
However, others have indicated that, given that he is 68 years old, Royle may simply be electing to retire.
Here’s how Everton fans reacted to Royle’s departure:
