The defender’s Everton career is effectively over.
HITC Sport understands Everton’s Cuco Martina is close to joining Stoke City on a season-long loan deal.
Martina was brought to Everton by Ronald Koeman two years ago, after he had worked with their former manager at Southampton.
But the Curacao right-back has only made 28 appearances throughout his time at Goodison Park, which is due to end next summer anyway.
And he looks set to follow in the footsteps of Ashley Williams, the centre-back who moved to Stoke on loan shortly after entering the final year of his own Everton contract.
It’s a prospect that has pleased many Evertonians, although not all of them are scathing of Martina’s spell on Merseyside.

Martina was also linked with a move to Middlesbrough, but is instead on course to make the much shorter journey to Stoke, where he would become summer signing number 8.
