Everton face Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Interim boss David Unsworth has reportedly made the bold decision to call up 18-year-old Everton defender Morgan Feeney to the first-team squad to face French giants Lyon – and fans are delighted for the youngster.
Concerns over summer signing Michael Keane’s fitness have continued to grow in the past week, after a gash on his leg had become infected. It remains to be seen when the former Burnley defender will return to first-team action.
That leaves out-of-form duo Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams as options at centre-back for Unsworth, and the Liverpool echo claim the Toffees icon has now decided to draft in back-up in the form of Feeney.
Unsworth will know Feeney well from his time in charge of the Everton Under-23 side, and he becomes the third youngster to earn a call up after Beni Baningime and Jonjoe Kenny have featured under the interim boss.
Feeney, who still has a season ticket in the Howard Kendall Gwladys Street stand, has been the subject of many Everton fans’ Tweets since the news broke. One fan even called for Feeney to give his season ticket to the under-performing Williams.
