Everton picked up a big three points on Monday night as they beat Southampton 1-0 at Goodison Park.

The Toffees were coming off the high of beating Liverpool at Anfield, but their home form has been patchy of late.

They took an early lead here though, with Richarlison latching onto a Gylfi Sigurdsson pass before rounding Fraser Forster to score.

Everton couldn’t find a key second goal, and that left them open to Southampton finding a late leveller – but Jordan Pickford stood tall.

A last-gasp chance fell to Jannik Vestergaard after some pinball inside the Everton box, and he slid in to divert the ball goalward.

Pickford rushed off his line quickly and made a great save, preserving his clean sheet and giving Everton all three points.

The England international has been slammed for poor performances for some time now, but Everton fans took to Twitter to hail his display last night.

Fans suggested that Pickford’s distribution was ‘out of this world’, and now looks like ‘the man again’.

Others think he ‘looks different’ and has ‘really improved’ of late, praising him for a ‘class’ performance against the Saints.
