Everton slumped to another defeat as Frank Lampard lost 3-1 to Newcastle United in the Englishman’s first Premier League match leading the Toffees.

Despite taking the lead, the Magpies responded instantly as Eddie Howe’s side cruised to a massive win at St. James Park, taking Newcastle out of the relegation zone and just one point off Everton in the standings.

It was a less than ideal way for Lampard to start his tenure at Everton, with many problems that lingered under Rafa Benitez’s reign still showing as Newcastle eased their way to three points.

Yet there was one bright light for the travelling Merseyside fans as Anthony Gordon once again impressed for Everton, with the youngster putting in an impressive shift against Newcastle.

The winger has become a staple for Everton this season after becoming a key player under Benitez, and last night, Gordon was again in impressive form as the 20-year-old caused havoc for Newcastle.

The attacker has quickly become a fan favourite for supporters and a glimmer of hope for the future of Everton, with Lampard no doubt eager to develop the youngster into some special.

It will take time for Lampard to solve Everton’s long-lasting issues, yet in Gordon, fans have a player who could become a symbol of an exciting new era for the club.
