Everton beat Southampton 2-1 at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

Everton picked up their first win of the Premier League season on Saturday afternoon, beating Southampton 2-1 at Goodison Park.
The Toffees drew 2-2 at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend despite being down to 10 men for much of the game, and new boss Marco Silva was seeking a first home win on Saturday.
That’s exactly what he got, as ex-Southampton winger Theo Walcott returned to haunt his former club with the opening goal, before big-money signing Richarlison made it 2-0 with his third goal of the season.
Southampton’s former Liverpool striker Danny Ings returned to Merseyside with a goal to set up a tense finale, but Everton managed to hang on and claim the win.
Silva will be delighted with the win and the performance of his big signing Richarlison, but the display of playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson really caught the eye of Everton fans.
The Iceland star was a club-record signing from Swansea City last summer, but he struggled to really hit top form under Ronald Koeman or Sam Allardyce in an underwhelming debut campaign.

However, Sigurdsson was at close to his best against Southampton, drawing praise from Everton fans on Twitter after the final whistle, with supporters calling him ‘immense’ and ‘complete class’.
Others suggested that Silva is already getting more out of Sigurdsson than his predecessors as the Portuguese boss works his magic on Sigurdsson, who was Man of the Match for many fans at Goodison Park.
