Sheffield United have won promotion back to the Premier League after a 12-year absence.

Phil Jagielka of Everton looks on during the Premier League match between Everton and Arsenal at Goodison Park on April 7, 2019 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Sheffield United were all but promoted on Saturday evening with a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town at Bramall Lane – and their promotion was confirmed on Sunday.

Scott Hogan and Jack O’Connell scored the goals for the Blades as they put themselves on the brink, and Leeds drawing with Villa on Sunday afternoon, meant promotion was confirmed.

12 years on from their dramatic relegation on the final day of the season under Neil Warnock, Sheffield United are heading back to the Premier League – and whilst they’ll be backed for immediate relegation, they’ll be hoping to make a real go of it.

Boss Chris Wilder has been backed with some smart signings this season, such as John Egan and Oliver Norwood, and he will be expecting more reinforcements this summer.

Wilder often went with experience in his United side, and a little bit of Premier League know-how will be wanted in order to try and help the club stay in the top flight.

One player who could be on the radar is defender Phil Jagielka, whose Everton contract comes to an end this summer, and he may be looking for a new club.

The 36-year-old came through the Blades ranks, making almost 300 appearances before heading to Everton in 2007, where he’s now close to 400 games under his belt.

Now, with Sheffield United promoted, many Everton fans have taken to Twitter to predict that the veteran will be heading back to Bramall Lane this summer, believing that he will ‘surely’ return to his former club in order to help them in the top flight, especially with a host of others defenders at Goodison Park.
