It is not the former Liverpool midfielder has provoked a strong reaction from within the Everton fanbase.

Everton fans are mocking Jamie Redknapp after the former Liverpool midfielder turned pundit suggested they should sign Michy Batshuayi on loan.

The Chelsea striker had his Valencia spell cut short on deadline day and completed a temporary move to Crystal Palace in the early hours of this morning.

Speaking to Sky Sports before then however, Redknapp said: “I think they need to bring in a striker. When I think of the great Everton sides they’ve always had a great centre forward, someone that could lead the line.

“Is Michy Batshuayi the answer? Everyone is trying to unearth this talent that he’s got. He seems to go from one place to another and he’s been sent back from Valencia where he’s been on loan. It didn’t really work out for him there.

“Batshuayi on a loan would be a no brainer. I really think it’s worth getting him in and seeing whether you can get something out of him.”

What Redknapp failed to realise however, is that Premier League clubs are only allowed to loan one player from the same divisional rival at any given time.

And that means to acquire Batshuayi on a temporary basis, Everton would have had to either terminate or turn permanent Kurt Zouma’s spell from the Blues.

Sadly for Redknapp, his slip up failed to go unnoticed.

This is what those of an Everton persuasion are saying on Twitter…

Redknapp, son of the former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Harry, spent 11 years on Liverpool’s books.

It is not the first time his comments have provoked a strong reaction from within the Everton fanbase, having previously described them as ‘working class people’, and claimed they don’t want to see ‘pretty football’ at Goodison Park, again via Sky Sports.
