Everton were hoping to sign Porto winger Luis Diaz over the summer, but they may have missed their chance with the Colombian starring this season.

Benitez’s interest in Diaz

With Rafael Benitez keen on signing one more winger even after landing Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend, Diaz was a target.

James Rodriguez was offered up in a swap for Diaz, but Fabrizio Romano claimed that a deal had collapsed on deadline day.

It has since emerged from Record that Porto were seeking a huge £68million fee for Diaz.

Unsurprisingly, Everton wouldn’t get close to that kind of price tag.

Everton may still fancy Diaz, but their chance may have passed them by.

The Everton target has now shown his quality on the European stage, scoring a superb goal against AC Milan on Tuesday night.

Diaz goes from strength to strength, and Everton fans seemingly think their hopes are over.

Some called Diaz ‘unreal’ and ‘class’, backing him to become a quality player now Everton have missed out.

Others think Everton now have no chance of landing Diaz in the future, thinking he will ultimately go on to bigger and better things.
