The transfer saga linking the Eagles ace Zaha with the Toffees has entered deadline day.

A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that James McCarthy has left Goodison Park for Crystal Palace – and what they hope it could mean in their club’s pursuit of Eagles star Wilfried Zaha.

The Republic of Ireland international has moved to Selhurst Park for an undisclosed fee – though Sky Sports lists it as £8.5million, while Transfermarkt lists it as £2.97million – after six years at Everton, where he made 133 appearances and scored six goals.

McCarthy’s Toffees career was unfortunately stalled by a broken leg suffered in January 2018 in a game against West Bromwich Albion and although he made his first-team return in the 4-0 win over Manchester United in April, he was unable to force his way back into the starting line-up.

Meanwhile, the Zaha to Everton transfer saga is going into transfer deadline day, with the latest concrete report at the time of writing suggesting that the Toffees are set to make a vastly improved offer – as high as £70million plus Cenk Tosun apparently – after the Ivory Coast international handed Palace a transfer request (The Telegraph).
