Everton were beaten 4-1 by Southampton in their most recent outing.
David Unsworth is not helping his cause by picking Gyfli Sigurdsson to play on the left at Everton.
Everton fans were fuming with Ronald Koeman, for his failure to get the best out of the Icelandic international during his time in charge at Goodison Park.
Koeman regularly played Sigurdsson out wide, and he was criticised heavily because of it.
However, Unsworth does not seem to have learned from his predecessor’s errors.
Sigurdsson was given a role on the left hand side during Everton’s heavy 4-1 defeat to Southampton and he looked all at sea.
The former Swansea City man was tasked with backing Leighton Baines up in defence in the early stages of the contest, and he failed to perform the role properly.
Sigurdsson simply couldn’t perform his defensive duties adequately, and that is through no fault of his own.
The 28-year-old is a brilliant number 10, but he thrives when given the licence to roam going forward.
And Unsworth’s failure to utilise Sigurdsson in is natural position has only opened himself up to criticism.
With Unsworth needing to do everything he can to put over his cause of becoming Everton’s next permanent boss, picking Sigurdsson to start on the left looks like a major error.
And Unsworth may rue that decision when he is left to reflect on his time as Everton’s caretaker boss.
