Marcel Brands wants Ademola Lookman to stay at Everton.
Everton are facing a massive summer, and it will be Dutchman Marcel Brands leading it, after he was brought in as the club’s new director of football last week.
The Toffees not only sacked manager Sam Allardyce last week, but also parted ways with director of football Steve Walsh, due to a host of poor signings under his guidance.
Brands has been lured from PSV Eindhoven to fill the role, and he will have a number of tasks this summer, including assisting in the appointment of a new manager and finding new signings.
Brands will also be assessing the Everton squad, and that will include returning loan players such as forward Ademola Lookman, who will head back to Goodison Park this summer.
The 20-year-old forward, signed from Charlton Athletic in January 2017, was touted for a bright future but started just one Premier League game this season, before heading out on loan to RB Leipzig.
Having been shackled and kept out by Sam Allardyce, Lookman showed his quality with five goals and three assists in just 11 Bundesliga games, flourishing in an exciting, attacking team.
That’s what Brands wants to see at Everton, and The Telegraph report that he will hold talks with Lookman’s representatives in a bid to convince the forward that his future lies with Everton, not with RB Leipzig.
Everton fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the report, with many impressed with Brands’ plan to keep the attacker, believing that Lookman has a huge role to play next season and beyond, believing that Brands is making a fine start to life with the Toffees by giving fans what they want to see; faith in young, attacking players.
