Everton’s 4-0 win against Manchester City in January this year was arguably the game in which Tom Davies announced himself on the Premier League stage.
Davies scored his first Everton goal that day, was involved in two more and ran further than any player on the pitch en route to being named man of the match at Goodison Park.

Seven months on, the 19-year-old struggled to replicate that impressive performance, despite Everton coming close to an impressive victory against the same opponents at the Etihad Stadium – and it is his perceived lack of energy which appears to be causing concern among some of the Toffees faithful.

In Davies’ defence, a bit of burnout was perhaps to be expected after a hectic calendar year, in which he has appeared in every single Everton fixture so far.
However, the home-grown star could soon be in line for a well-earned rest following Gylfi Sigurdsson’s £45 million arrival from Swansea City.
The Iceland international replaced Davies in the 61st minute at City, who later cancelled out Wayne Rooney’s opener courtesy of Raheem Sterling’s strike.
