Everton’s pursuit of a new manager goes on – and AC Milan have just sacked Vincenzo Montella
Its been five weeks since Ronald Koeman was sacked by Everton and, at this point, the fans are getting a little impatient.
While David Unsworth has presided over one win in his caretaker charge, not to mention exits from the EFL Cup and Europa League, and 5-1 and 4-1 batterings against Atalanta and Southampton, a number of managerial candidates appear to have slipped through Everton’s grasp.
Watford are refusing to let Marco Silva go, Carlo Ancelotti is taking a break, Sam Allardyce is happy sitting in plush BBC studios while Ralf Rangnick (below), the RB Leipzig sporting director who emerged as a surprise target last week (The Express), has signed a new contract with the Bundesliga high-flyers.
So when the news broke on Monday that AC Milan had parted company with manager Vincenzo Montella, it is little surprise that Everton fans are already considering the prospect of the one-time striking great taking the reins at Goodison Park.
Montella had been under pressure from right back at the beginning of the season with Milan spending around £200 million in order to power their way back to the top of the Italian game.
And after slipping to seventh, 18 points adrift of leaders Napoli, the 39-year-old was inevitably given his marching orders. But many Everton fans would happily hand the former Italy international an immediate return to management on Merseyside.
