Sam Allardyce has suggested that Everton new boy Cenk Tosun is struggling to adapt to the Premier League.
Sam Allardyce has received a backlash, after failing to bring on Cenk Tosun during Everton’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Allardyce appeared to have the perfect opportunity to use Tosun against Palace, with Everton coasting to success.
However, the Turkish striker was overlooked, with the Toffees turning to other options.
Tosun has now played just 12 minutes in Everton’s last three matches, which has led to concerns that he could be set to flop at Goodison Park.
Allardyce did explain his decision not to bring on Tosun in the Liverpool Echo after the contest.
He said: “He is struggling with the pace of the Premier League which happens to more players than it doesn’t to who come in in January.
“There are more that struggle than actually succeed. As time goes on and the more we get closer to our safety the more we can release and see what he’s got.”
However, Allardyce’s explanation has not gone down well with Everton fans, who are already concerned about their new signing’s lack of impact.
Everton’s victory over Palace has put them eight points clear of the drop zone, and eased any concerns over relegation.
The Toffees are next in action against Watford in two weekends’ time.
