Arteta may have no past record of managing at senior level, but he has been touted as an exceptional coach.
And many Everton fans are keen to see the Spaniard given his first chance at Goodison Park.
Everton may have to compete with Arsenal to appoint Arteta, as the Manchester City coach has also been linked with the vacancy at the Emirates Stadium.
The Toffees, meanwhile, are believed to be considering placing Marco Silva in charge.
At the moment Sam Allardyce remains in charge at Goodison Park, but the English boss is expected to depart in the near future.
