Everton are showing an interest in Hoffenheim’s breakthrough Bundesliga star Maximilian Beier but face a battle with Premier League rivals Brentford.

With Germany crying out for a centre-forward – the days of Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose long gone – the emergence of Maximilian Beier ahead of next summer’s European Championships on home soil could hardly have been better timed.

While still only 20 years of age, BILD reports that new Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann is already planning to hand Beier a first ever call-up ahead of the October international break. And few would argue that the Hoffenheim starlet does not deserve an opportunity to stake his claim.

Beier, in his first season as a regular starter, has found the net in each of his last four Bundesliga games. Form which has reportedly caught the eye of both Everton and Brentford, not to mention Nagelsmann

Everton face Brentford battle for Maximilian Beier

“Above all, it is important for him to even get into positions from which he can shoot,” beams Hoffenheim coach Pellegrino Matarazzo (FT). “He can manage that thanks to his dynamism and technique.

“You either have those genes or you don’t, and Maxi has those genes to score goals.”

With BILD reporting that Beier has a bargain £17 million release clause in his Hoffenheim contract, it is no surprise that Everton are sniffing around; the Toffees in the market for further goalscorers yet operating on a restricted budget.

Beto has impressed since his arrival and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has two-in-two. But injuries are never far away for the latter. And, with another relegation dogfight potentially on the cards, Everton cannot really have too many goal threats.

There is also interest from Brentford.

Thomas Frank’s Bees have made good use of the Bundesliga market of late – bringing in Kevin Schade and Mark Flekken from Freiburg – and may see the explosive, 6ft 1ins Beier as a potential replacement for the reportedly wantaway Ivan Toney
