Everton have been linked with an Arsenal winger recently but now may not need to sign him.

It seems likely that Everton will be active in the January transfer window as manager Sam Allardyce seeks to improve his squad but the evidence suggests that plans to sign one reported target should be scotched.

Theo Walcott, who has struggled to command regular playing time for Arsenal this season, has been linked with a move to Everton, as reported by The Sun.

Walcott’s pace and directness could well be useful assets for Everton but Allardyce no longer needs to pursue a move for the winger, with Aaron Lennon starting to perform effectively again.

Lennon has produced some encouraging displays of late and is clearly gaining a lot from working under a manager who has much faith in him.

Although Lennon has yet to score or provide an assist this season, several of his overall displays have been impressive recently and he will hope to establish himself as an important player for Everton under Allardyce’s guidance.

By putting faith in Lennon, Allardyce can instead look to strengthen Everton’s side in other areas in January, with a striker and defensive reinforcements likely to be high on his list of priorities.
