Everton appear to be on the verge of signing Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek after he chose the Toffees over Crystal Palace.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Van de Beek has made a final decision on his future and will head to Everton on loan.

Everton agreed a deal with United on Saturday and will now pay Van de Beek’s full wages during his time at Goodison Park.

Palace were also pushing for a deal, but Van de Beek is understood to have made his decision earlier today and will join Everton instead.

What’s interesting is that this report claims Everton actually discussed signing Van de Beek with their managerial candidates.

It’s clear that Everton retained their interest in Van de Beek from the summer, despite Marcel Brands leaving the club.

With Frank Lampard on the verge of being appointed as Everton boss, it looks like he has given his backing to a deal.

Van de Beek, 24, joined United for £40million in 2020 having racked up 41 goals and 34 assists in 175 games for Ajax.

The Dutchman has barely played for United, starting just four Premier League games since arriving at Old Trafford.

This move to Everton at least gives Van de Beek a chance to show what he can do in the Premier League ahead of a more long-term decision on his future.

If Van de Beek shines at Everton, as he has the ability to do, and United still don’t want him, he would at least know it’s time to leave for good.

Regular playing time will be vital for Van de Beek, who went from star man at Ajax to a squad player at United.

Joining Everton may now give Van de Beek that feeling of importance again, as he should play a key role between now and the summer.

Add in that he will be learning from one of the best Premier League midfielders of all time in Lampard and this loan has real potential.
