The Toffees eight-goal ace admits the squad is aware they’ve not been at their best on numerous occasions.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has admitted that Everton’s players are aware that their form this season has not been the best but is hoping the win over Chelsea can be used as a springboard going into the business end of the campaign.
The Toffees currently sit 11th in the standings, having won 11 and lost 13 games this campaign, but in their final game before the March international break they ran out 2-0 winners over Chelsea at Goodison Park.
According to Sky Sports News, the triumph over the Blues was their first win over a top-six side in over two years and, as testament to their up-and-down form this term, was only their third from their last nine league matches.
In addition, Marco Silva’s side have also only won back-to-back league matches once this season, in October, which has hampered their hopes of challenging the top six, and the Everton forward spoke out about their form and, in turn, their relatively lowly position in the table.
“That is why we’re we are at the moment,” Calvert-Lewin told Sky Sports News. “We have to be honest with ourselves, there have been times when we have not come to the fore as we should have.
“Consistency is key and momentum. There is no hiding place. We’re all aware it is not good to be winning and then losing games… there are still seven games left to finish as high as we can and that is what we are looking to do – to chase that seventh spot and finish as high as we can up the table.”
Everton’s next game following the resumption of the Premier League will be away at West Ham United on Saturday 30 March, and Calvert-Lewin will be eager to add to his eight goals in all competitions this season (Transfermarkt).
