Marco Silva will hope the Toffees can overcome the Reds of Jurgen Klopp in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Goodison Park.
Everton got a timely boost on Tuesday night ahead of Sunday’s Premier League Merseyside derby against Liverpool by ending a poor February on a high note with a 3-0 victory away at Cardiff City.
The Toffees had lost three of their four games last month but, against Neil Warnock’s struggling Bluebirds, they ended up claiming a comprehensive victory which eased the pressure on under-fire manager Marco Silva.
Gylfi Sigurdsson scored a goal in each half at the Cardiff City Stadium and, late on, Idrissa Gueye took advantage of some lacklustre Bluebirds defending to play Dominic Calvert-Lewin in, the youngster then going through on goal and picking his spot from the edge of the area.
Calvert-Lewin’s appearance against the Bluebirds was his 13th start for Everton this season, with his goal his seventh of the campaign, and speaking ahead of the game against Liverpool, his comments should be cause for concern for the Reds camp.
“This past week in training, I’ve been feeling confident and been training really well,” the 21-year-old told evertontv, as quoted by the official club website. “I took that into the game (at Cardiff) and played with no fear.
“For any player, it’s about consistency and I have to perform like that on a consistent basis. I know I can do it, it’s about proving to everyone else that I can. But, for me, it’s not about talking too much, it’s about showing it on the pitch.”
Given DCL’s form this term and boasting the right attitude, on top of comments made by Cardiff defender Sol Bamba after the midweek game in which he praised the youngster, highlighting his quality, there is every chance that the Everton ace can spring a surprise against Jurgen Klopp’s title challengers.
