Everton have been linked with another right-back but they should stick with what they have got.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton are interested in signing Daniel Opare from Augsburg in January, with West Ham United and Swansea City also keen on the right-back.
However the Toffees would be wise to stick with what they have got in that position, with Jonjoe Kenny proving his worth and Mason Holgate a more than able deputy.
The less said about Cuco Martina the better, yet with European football no longer on the agenda, and Premier League progress the Toffees’ main focus between now and May, they should not stifle the progress of their exciting next generation just to add numbers to their already sizable squad.
Price at £3million, Opare would be a fine signing if Everton actually needed him, but Kenny’s emergence this season means new Toffees boss Sam Allardyce should be focused on developing the 20-year-old.
Opare would only join Everton if he was guaranteed regular first-team football and that would severely dent Kenny’s development.
While Holgate is expected to blossom into an impressive centre-back in time, he is more than capable of covering for Kenny at right-back, and Allarydce would be much better off strengthening other areas of the pitch at this stage of his tenure.
