Everton sold Ramiro Funes Mori to Villarreal yesterday, with the centre-back potentially the first of many to depart Goodison Park this summer.

According to Sporxx, Everton received a staggering £17.5 million fee for Ramiro Funes Mori and that has to go down as a great piece of business from Marcel Brands.

Villarreal signed Funes Mori from Everton yesterday, with the expected clear-out at Goodison Park starting to take shape.

Funes Mori had only been a reserve at Everton last term, partially due to injury, so to get such a fee for him as an impressive achievement.

Funes Mori showed glimpses of quality, but he was erratic and his fitness record was not the most reliable.

For Everton to get £17.5 million for the Argentine is a remarkable piece of business, and the hope is that that fee can now be invested elsewhere in their squad.

Marco Silva has already stated that he is targeting quality over quantity this summer, which suggests that the Toffees could have some expensive targets in mind.

And Brands has helped Everton balance the books already, by getting such a large fee for a centre-back, who looked unlikely to be in their starting line-up next term.
