Everton defender Phil Jagielka has admitted to The Liverpool Echo that it has not been easy to adapt to Ronald Koeman’s playing style.

Koeman was appointed the Everton manager in the summer following his departure from Premier League rivals Southampton.

The Dutchman has done a good job at Goodison Park so far this season, and the team are playing good football.

The Toffees are fifth in the Premier League table at the moment with 14 points from seven matches.

The Merseyside outfit are four points behind leaders Manchester City, who are favourites to win the league title this season.

Everton defender Jagielka has admitted that it is difficult and frustrating at times for the players to adapt to Koeman’s playing style.

“Sometimes it is difficult and frustrating for all of us, we understand that, but this is a different style and type of playing at the moment and we are putting at least four match winners out there which is a lot for a team to play with,” Jagielka told The Liverpool Echo.

“We are working as hard as we can and we get them working as hard as they can, but if not we need to be the ones to give them a good platform and base and consistency and continuity are massive when it comes to a defence and keeping clean sheets.”

Everton are unlikely to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, but given the start that they have made, they should be plotting a challenge for a top-six spot.

The Merseyside outfit will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on City away from home at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.
