Everton full-back Bryan Oviedo has explained how Ronaldo Koeman has adapted his role and playing style since his arrival at Goodison Park, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The 26-year-old Costa Rica international made the move to Merseyside in August 2012, but has failed to establish himself as a regular starter for the Toffees, making only 27 Premier League starts during his time at the club.
During an interview with evertonfc.com, Oviedo described how Koeman is very demanding of his full-backs, and how in turn, he has had to change the way in which he operates:

“When we have possession and are on the attack you have to be a very clever full-back because we create the balance of the team. Yes, I like to play going forward but there are moments when I need to be more controlled. If we are attacking on the right then we need balance on the left. Maybe I have to be more concentrated on the defensive side because the manager and his staff like us to be very good on the defensive balance.”

The Blues take on West Ham United tomorrow in the early kick-off, and Oviedo will be hoping to continue his run in the first-team that has seen him start Everton’s last four league games, during the absence of Leighton Baines due to injury.
Now is the ideal time for the Costa Rican to prove to Koeman that he is good enough to be considered as Everton’s first-choice left-back, because when Baines returns to the fold, his chances of achieving regular first-team football will diminish quite substantially.
