Everton defender Ashley Williams earns widespread praise from Wales fans

Everton have loaned out Ashley Williams to Stoke City this season, with his form so poor.

Everton defender Ashley Williams has earned praise from Wales fans for his display against Ireland.

Williams has had a torrid time in recent seasons, with Everton and Wales fans both on his back.

Even a loan move to Stoke City doesn’t seem to have helped him recover his form.

But Williams led by example last night, as Wales picked up a 1-0 win in Ireland.

And the experienced Everton centre-back has finally earned some credit for his display.

So many youngsters brilliant tonight, but Ashley Williams was fantastic. Has had a tough time of it lately, but he looked back to his best. Pivotal in helping Wales keep a clean sheet. #IRLWAL

Williams’ future at Everton looks to be in doubt, regardless of whether this performance proves to be the turning point.

The Goodison Park crowd appear to have run out of patience with him.

However, Williams can take heart from this showing, and Stoke will be hoping that his form improves now.
