Barcelona’s pursuit of Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose appears set to fail with Brazilian newspaper Globo Esporte reporting his preference to stay put.

Everton were linked with a £28 million swoop for the striker back in April, and despite his plans, the Toffees may stand a chance.

Globo Esporte report that the reason Willian Jose is not keen on a move to Barcelona is due to the worry he would not play.

With Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez it is understandable, and Spain striker Paco Alcacer is used as an example of a player who moved to Barcelona last summer and saw his opportunities severely restricted.

Willian Jose’s priority is to be a striker and earn a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad and feels staying at Real Sociedad is his best option.

Everton should not be deterred, especially if they eventually cash in on Romelu Lukaku.

They could tempt Willian Jose with the promise of a starting spot – or at the very least an equal opportunity to win one, which he would not get at Barcelona.

There would be competition for sure at Everton, but if he wants a place in the Brazil team, that is precisely what he will have to overcome.
