Everton could make a move to sign Joao Pedro – who Newcastle wanted in the summer – if Anthony Gordon leaves Goodison Park.
What’s the story?
Well, the Toffees are at risk of losing Gordon this month, with the Telegraph claiming that he is expected on Tyneside before the weekend to complete a move to Newcastle.
If the 21-year-old does leave Everton, Kevin Thelwell – Director of Football at Goodison Park – could make a move for Watford striker Pedro, according to a separate story from the Telegraph.
Marko Arnautovic is another option for Everton.
Coincidentally, Pedro was a target for Newcastle back in the summer, with the Magpies even submitting a £30m bid for the Brazilian – according to Sky Sports.
As per that same report, Everton also tried to sign the South American, and it seems their interest has not disappeared despite the sacking of Frank Lampard.
So far this season, Pedro – who cost Watford £2m in a deal from Fluminense – has scored eight goals in 20 Championship appearances, while also providing two assists.
Newcastle should rival Everton for Pedro
In our view, Eddie Howe should drop his pursuit of Gordon and move onto a deal for Pedro.
The Everton No.10 has only scored three goals this season, and it could be argued that he has something of an attitude problem having skipped several training sessions to force an exit.
In regards to Pedro, Howe is clearly a fan of the Watford No.10 having bid for him in the summer, so that deal would make more sense than a move for Gordon, who Sky Sports believe would cost £40m.
After all, with Everton joint-bottom of the Premier League, Newcastle could revisit their interest in Gordon if the Toffees go down, which is likely to see the England Under-21 international’s price tag decrease.
