Everton are reportedly closing in on Boca Juniors defender Frank Fabra.
Everton desperately need to sign a left back this summer, and reports suggest that they may just have a deal lined up for one already.
The Toffees somehow left the last two transfer windows without signing a new left back, meaning they have been caught short by injury problems for Leighton Baines.
The veteran left back, who turns 34 later this year, is clearly slowing down and becoming more susceptible to injuries, but a bizarre lack of cover means Cuco Martina has been pressed into action there.
Now though, it seems that Everton are already closing in on the signing of Boca Juniors left back Frank Fabra, with CalcioNapoli24 reporting that the Toffees have already agreed a €5million (£4.5million) deal to pip Napoli to his signature.
Fabra, 27, has starred for Boca in recent years and is set to feature prominently for Colombia at the World Cup in Russia this summer, with Everton unsurprisingly keen to secure his services before he has a chance to impress at the World Cup.
A strong and pacy attack-minded left back, Fabra is something of a gamble given the lack of success that players tend to enjoy when heading from South America to the Premier League, but it also looks to be a major bargain.
In such an inflated market, landing an international defender of Fabra’s quality for just £4.5million would be a snip for Everton, and the low fee would mean they aren’t necessarily committed to starting Fabra when Baines is fit.
Fabra may struggle in England like many South Americans before him have, but with depth needed at left back, a £4.5million deal for Fabra looks to be a bargain for Everton before the transfer window has even opened, and he is definitely worth gambling on for the Toffees.
