Everton are reportedly set to miss out on Thiago Silva to manager Carlo Ancelotti’s former club Chelsea.
The Sun reported on June 14 of interest from Everton in the Brazil international central defender.
The report in the British tabloid also credited Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal with interest in the veteran star.
However, it seems that Everton – as well as Tottenham and Arsenal – will miss out on the signing of the 35-year-old to Chelsea, one of the clubs Ancelotti has managed in his past.
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are close to securing the services of Silva on a one-year contract.
The 35-year-old is a free agent at the moment following his departure from French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea over Everton?
Silva may be in his mid-30s, but he remains one of the best central defenders on the planet.
While Everton are a big club, they will not play in the Champions League next season and will not challenge for the Premier League title.
Chelsea will play in Europe’s premier club competition in 2020-21, and the Blues will also be aiming to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City for the league title.
