According to The Mirror, Everton are lining up a January swoop for Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro in a bid to boost their attacking options.

The Toffees sold Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United over the summer, and whilst fans expected the club to spend big on a replacement, the only striker to arrive was Sandro Ramirez in a bargain deal from Malaga.

Whilst Oumar Niasse made a heroic contribution with two goals against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, manager Ronald Koeman and director of football Steve Walsh must bring in another striker in January.

Now, The Mirror report that Everton have been sounded out about a move for Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro during the January transfer window.

Gameiro, 30, has proven himself as something of a goal machine in recent years, as the French international hit 67 goals in 144 games for Sevilla, including 29 in his final season with the club before joining Atletico last summer.

Gameiro’s goalscoring exploits continued with 16 goals in 42 games, but the signing of Diego Costa in January will push him down the pecking order, meaning he may look to leave.

Everton, according to Marca, offered €75million (£66million) to sign Costa last month in a failed bid, but they could still benefit from his move with a January bid for Gameiro, a proven, natural goalscorer.

With Everton contacted about a move, it seems that the striker himself may be up for a move to Goodison Park, and Everton should strongly consider a bid for such an impressive striker.
