Everton are now keen to sign Alfredo Morelos on a free transfer after his exit from Rangers was confirmed.
It was Fanatik in Turkey who claimed that the Toffees are competing with Fenerbahce for the Colombia international.
If Everton manage to bring Alfredo Morelos to Goodison Park, it would be a shrewd move based on what Steven Gerrard said about the striker in 2019.
What’s the story?
Well, the South American’s contract at Ibrox expires on June 30th, and he could soon be heading for Merseyside as Michael Beale confirms his No.20 is “going to be moving on” from Rangers.
Morelos – who was offered to Inter Milan earlier this year – has scored 12 goals in 44 appearances for the Scottish giants so far this season, while also providing seven assists.
That represents a major drop off from the 26-year-old’s efforts in the 2019/20 campaign.
Morelos impressively scored 29 goals and provided ten assists in 47 appearances for Rangers that season, with his remarkable form prompting Gerrard to admit that he wouldn’t sell the Colombian for more than £50m.

When asked if he would sell Morelos for £40m during his time in charge of Rangers, the Daily Record quote Gerrard as saying: “No – and you can add another £10m on as well.”
Therefore, if Everton manage to get a striker who was valued at more than £50m just four years ago for free this summer, it would be a very good signing – regardless of what division the Toffees are in.
Morelos offers Everton something different
While there have been plenty of question marks about Morelos this season, he would still offer Everton something unique in attack.
Aside from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who unfortunately cannot be relied on due to his injury problems, Everton do not really have a poacher who can sniff out goals inside the box.
Neal Maupay and Ellis Simms have failed to prove that they are capable of grabbing a goal out of nothing.
However, Morelos thrives when it comes to being in the right place at the right time inside the penalty area, and while his overall game, including hold-up play, may sometimes be lacking, his sense for goals cannot be questioned.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Everton go up against Fenerbahce for his signature.
